Last weekend I participated in Tough Mudder, a fun, albeit challenging, 10-12 mile obstacle course in Whistler, designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie.
My team, The Badass Cougars, included four of my fellow Crossfit friends from Crossfit Westside and four of their friends. (I should note that I consider myself to be a cougar in training ;) ) Our two last minute teammate additions, two male friends of one of my teammates, turned out to be our angels in disguise as they helped us get through the course in one piece. They even wore our tutus to boot!
Tough Mudder is not only a test of your physical endurance, but also your mental endurance. Throughout the course our team was counting down the miles to the finish line and just when we thought we were almost done, we found out we still had another 2 miles to go! Did I mention it was mostly uphill?
The scariest challenge for me was Everest, a 15-foot half-pipe that you have to scale by sprinting at it full force and then taking a leap of faith hoping that your teammates catch you. Thankfully, mine did! Tough Mudder is all about teamwork and whether we were being electrocuted or sliding into ice water, our team was all smiles. I couldn't have gotten through the course without my amazing team.
Check out some photos of our team and the course to get an idea of what Tough Mudder is all about. Join me next year?
